Many individuals have encountered some type of trauma in their lives. A traumatic event can be described as severely difficult or painful and often results in feeling isolated, confused, numb, afraid, and depressed. Many individuals who have experienced a trauma also report a negative impact on their relationships and ability to cope and feel happy.
Common traumas that patients report include sudden death of a loved one, intense medical situations, car accident, or severe illness or injuries. Other traumas include physical or sexual assault, domestic violence, military combat, or being the victim of or witnessing a crime. We work with individuals who have experienced a trauma to identify the effects on their lives and relationships. Our counselors help them as they accept the impact of the trauma and move forward in order to reengage with the world.
