At Renewed Relationships, we offer a type of relationship counseling known as Emotionally Focused Couple’s Therapy (EFCT). While many types of relationship counseling focus on changing surface-level interactions and behaviors, EFCT teaches individuals and couples to understand the underlying thought patterns and emotions that cause reactions. This ensures that any changes are made based on a better understanding of one another, rather than just providing a temporary fix.
Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) can be used with individuals as well as with couples. When working with an individual using EFT, therapists help the patient determine common thinking patterns and assumptions. Together, we work toward recognizing the impact of those assumptions on the patient's emotional reactions and relationships with others. We help identify insecurities and practice engaging in healthier thinking patterns with an emphasis on adaptive communication. We find that the focus on emotion and thought helps individuals feel more “in control” of their reactions, rather than feeling like a passenger whose day is entirely dependent upon what happens to them.
